Things I am Obsessing Over

25 May

Isn’t it funny how certain things appeal to you more now, than say, 6 months ago (and vice versa)? I love it! I can always remember different periods of my life, just by recalling what I was immersing myself in at that point. For instance, I can tell you that 1 year ago I was obsessed with watching Rachel Zoe episodes on my iPod as I finished up my final semester of college. I was also totally into making jewelry (a hobby that has since fallen by the wayside) and was loving my last few weeks living in San Diego. Today I am obsessed with…

Martha Stewart punches! Good lord, I have the hardest time deciding which punch to purchase each time I just “happen” to be in the neighborhood of a Michaels and I just “happen” to have a 40% off coupon in hand. I wonder how that happens? Hahah!

Finding amazing shops on Etsy, such as this one by Carole Hannah! Remember Carole Hannah from Project Runway? She made it to Bryant Park, but somehow Irina emerged victorious (Irina…ugh!). Nonetheless, she was totally my favorite and I was so excited to see that she has a shop on Etsy! How cool is that?

The galleries at Studio Calico. Not only are the design team galleries each month enough to make me want to drop everything and start scrapping, but the member galleries are amazing as well!

Sex and The City trailers! Each time one comes on, I have to stop what I’m doing and watch intently! I just re-watched the first movie the other night after everyone went to bed and I have to tell you…it is better than I remembered! So excited for the sequel!

Flickr favorites screenshots! I often will take a screenshot, paste it in Word, and then print out so I can take it with me as I go about my day, glancing at it from time to time for a burst of inspiration!

There’s plenty more that I am in love with, but I will save those for another fun-filled day! 🙂

Shaking Things Up

17 Apr

One day, while reading a back issue of CK, I became enthralled with an article featuring a list of 100 Creativity Starters. Although I had probably read this article about 50 times before, I was seeing it with new eyes this time. So…it got me thinking. What if I made my own “list” of creativity starters? How fun would that be to pull an idea at random and use that as my guide for whatever creative endeavor I felt like pursuing? And so it goes…

I wrote down a bunch of ideas on little scraps of paper and folded them up (to keep myself from cherry-picking. Yes, I have to guard myself from myself – ha!) The more I began to think about it, the more ideas kept popping up in my head! Which existentially confirms the validity of the process (Mrs. Cochran – that sentence is for you!): Once you get an idea going, the easier it is build on that idea with even greater ideas. I think I should have majored in Philosophy…

As you can see here, these starting points are seriously all over the map. They include ideas for titles, themes, color palettes, products to use, techniques to try, quotes, etc. Now my only problem is they are overflowing from my cute $0.99-greatest-shade-of-turquoise-my-eyes-have-ever-seen-on-ceramic  mug! Looks like there will be many a happy scrappy day in my near and not-so-near future – ha!

Just a few things…

10 Apr

In the spirit of lazy Saturday mornings, I found a few things that have kept me quite distracted (and parked in front of the computer for waaaay too long). So I feel like sharing the lazy bug with you as well:

I’m obsessed with podcasts. And the word obsessed applies quite literally here – it’s nothing short of an addiction. One of my favorites is Tranquility du Jour from Kimberly Wilson. Everything she blogs/speaks about it everything I want to hear.

Another favorite is the Paperclipping Roundtable. I can’t seem to get enough of that show! Especially this past week when they spoke with Stephanie Howell (whom I totally adore!). One of my favorite concepts from Stephanie during that show was when she said she really only scraps about moments as opposed to events. I want to do that too!

I just ran across The Color Room blog/color challenge site that looks quite intriguing! I can see myself going back here again and again.

One word: GLEE!!! This is how much I love that show: one time John and I watched an episode TWO times in a row! If you know anything about me and my lack of patience/ability to sit still long enough to watch an hour-long show all the way through without fidgeting like a 4 year old, you would realize what a landmark event it was for me to do such a thing. That, my friends, is good television.

Lady Gaga’s and Beyonce’s “Telephone.” That song is INTENSE! Especially when Beyonce starts rapping. And of course, the subject matter is so serious. Love it!

Kelly Purkey’s Snapshots of My Weekend posts. Such a fun concept – I’m jumping on the bandwagon too! Look for my weekend recap in photos on Monday…

Have a great weekend, everyone!

P.S. Cloudy weekend mornings make me want to watch HGTV and listen to jazz. But not at the same time.

I Am…

16 Feb

Wondering whether I should hit the “Confirm Order” button on my latest 2Peas-adding-to-cart extraveganza.

Listening to a bomb-dig playlist on Pandora (is it still cool to say “bomb-dig?” hmmm…). Right now it’s playing Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love.” Fab.

Pleased with the purse organizer I dreamed up and brought to life last night, via a 1/2 yard of linen and my trusty sewing machine. Photos to come…

Looking forward to watching the “Real Housewives of Orange County – Season One” DVD that John surprised me with for V-Day. That boy knows me and my love for the RHOOC too well.

Planning on cleaning the whole house today.

Enjoying having the windows open on this beautiful sunny day.

Thinking about when I should head over to the UPS to have a package sent out.

In the midst of an excellent read from the library.

Basking in the glow of a post-President’s Day Weekend shopping spree at Jo-Ann’s. Holy moley, did anyone else take advantage of the UNFATHOMABLY LOW prices? I think I was in heaven, loading up my basket and spending less than 15 bucks.

Excited to play with my new Slice Die, that I snagged for 40% off at Michael’s yesterday. Lord help me and my craft shopping trips.

Thoroughly enjoying the Olympics. I LOVE the Olympics. Capital L-O-V-E.

Still wearing my PJ’s.

Procrastinating. But what else is new?

Hoping you all had a wonderful President’s Day Weekend and Valentine’s Day. I know I did.

Workspace Overhaul

4 Feb

Yesterday involved a total workspace overhaul:

and then…

After making a list of everything that needed a house and what I had to house them in, I hit up the Goodwill where, for $6, I scored two fabulous new containers for my desk! Oh happy day, let me tell you. I am quite pleased with the results. Now for the difficult part: maintaining the organization…

February 1st!

1 Feb

I love the start of a new month. There’s something refreshing about starting back at one and wiping the slate clean. I remember being very excited about this when I was in school because it meant I got to write a new word on all my papers (are my nerdy true colors shining through yet?). I’m especially fond of February because it involves a certain holiday based around love, paper, and candy that I am a big fan of!

Since I didn’t have to work or tend to any pressing matters today, I took the morning to chill and enjoy the coffee in my mug, the podcasts on my iPod, and my wireless internet connection. As it turns out, Tumblr is quite addicting (as evidenced by the two hours that somehow came and went without my knowing)!

But now I have things to do, which may include, but is not limited to: going on a hike, doing laundry, maybe browsing Tumblr a bit more (unless I can rein in the self-control that seems to elude me! ha!), laundry, reorganizing my insanely messy workspace, going to the library because what’s better than free literature (even if it is Martha Stewarts’ Craft Encyclopedia for the 5th time in a row!), eating quinoa with veggies for lunch (so good!), taking Jake for a walk, maybe getting dressed now that it is 2:30 in the afternoon, and many many more fun things!

Hope your day is fruitful and fabulous!

9 Things on My Mind

14 Jan

1. How much I LOVE this picture! Can you believe the colors in this shot?? I would base the color palette of my whole house and wardrobe around these sparkling shades! John is the master photographer, he really is…

2. How much I LOVE scrapbooking! And lately I’ve been obsessed with getting it “right.” If it’s not agreeing with my visually for some reason, I will start over and work until I am totally satisfied. There is always a solution to be had!

3. Hidden journaling on my layouts, like the little pocket I did on my “Talking About Knowledge” layout. I had never really considered such a thing until I read this book and saw so many inspiring examples! What a fabulous way to save valuable real estate on a layout!

4. This list by the always inspiring, talented, creative, insightful genius that is Hula Seventy. Love her.

5. How happy I am that I decided to grow my hair out again. I forgot how exciting is to unwind rollers from my hair and find out how fluffy my waves will be today, or at least for the next 30 minutes (knowing the curl-holding abilities of my hair)! It’s the little things that thrill me most.

6. Leggings.  Janelle had a great post on their ephemerality here. I’m actually a newcomer to the leggings world, at least the second go-round in my lifetime.  I always feared they would resemble the kind I wore in second grade…the ones that my mom made me tuck my shirt into. HA! I cringe just typing that. You can rest assured there will be no tucking-in-of-shirts-into-my-leggings this time around.

7. That today is January 14th, which in my mind, is the prettiest sounding day of the year. Love the way the words “January” and “fourteenth” flow together. Future wedding date, perhaps?

8. Last-minute weekend getaways on Travelocity. What a thrill it is to plan vacations on a whim! One of these days, I’m actually going to book one…

9. How I need to get a move-on if I’m going to run all my errands AND get to work on time. That’s my cue…

Have a wonderful day!
