Run, Run, Run, Runaway

I’ve been forcing myself to run lately. And I’m kinda liking it.

I’ve never been a fan of running. Even when I knowingly joined the track team in high school, for not one but TWO years. Although I have to admit joining the team had very little to do with running. It had very much do with a certain boy and a certain track sweatshirt (see above). Totally worth it for that sweatshirt alone. But I digress…

Anyways, I consider myself a very active person who works out almost everyday. Hiking, biking, rollerblading, kickboxing, tae-boing (correct verbage? hahaha!), elliptical-ing, walking, Spinning, strength training, Jillian Michaels-ing, shopping til I drop…I’m down for any of these things at anytime. But running? Ehhhh…

But, thanks to the inspiration of some very good (and very fit) friends, I am newly inspired. Sarah is a crazy multi-marathoner. Jaymee runs various races ending in the letter “K.” Heather and Angie did 13.1 miles like it was nothing. I mean, come on! How can you have friends like this and not be totally motivated? Plus, Jaymee just introduced me to the most hilarious/inspiring running blog called SkinnyRunner (I think I’ve read almost half her blog already, I feel an obsession coming on!).

I just wanted to put this out there, if for no other reason than to remind myself months from now, oh yeah, I did do that newfangled workout trend called running. Go me. HA!

Not Exactly Certain…

why I have been MIA from the blogging world for so long, but now I am back and I have lots to share!

First of all, I am happy to report that I have began to put a dent in my happy list! For the past two days, John and I have gone hiking about an hour before sunset in the hills where we live. I have to say…it has been magical! It is the perfect time of day to take in the sweeping views, breathe in fresh air, take lots of vibrant photos, and allow just enough time to head back in before the mountain lions make an appearance!

(I promise, we hike on real paths, not just paved roads in the middle of suburbia! Ha!)

I feel compelled to tell you…I got this shirt today at Target for $2.50! Sarah, are you proud of me?? Haha!

In other resolution-fulfilling news, I have been feeling mighty creative lately and have cranked out the last few pages for my Holiday 2009 book! And what a joy it has been to be in a crafting mood again!

Latest obsession: creating hidden journaling spots, a la the “But wait, there’s more” tab on the left layout.

Can’t seem to finish a layout these days without a touch of measuring tape and ribbon!

Layout on the right is one of my new faves. I hadn’t meant for the Hambly body-form rub-on to go over the photo, but when it accidentally touched and wouldn’t lift off, I decided I really liked it there! LOVE rub-ons! So fun.

Envelope contains photos from a day spent in Glendale, enjoying the Christmas festivities. Easier to house the majority of the pictures in an envelope while featuring just one photo as the “representative”, if you will.

One thing I thought would be fun to have in my book was screenshots of websites I frequent and use them as a documentation of where I was at this time. I really loved playing with them and can’t wait to do it more often!

This particular envelope contains Christmas lists, tags, and little bits and pieces of the season that I know will be fun to look back on at a later date. The grey pouch on the right layout is from an old Abercrombie shirt that I bought years ago! It used to hold spare buttons, but now it is featured in my book! Love how recycling can take on so many forms…

Happy List 2010

I love goals.

Any kind of goal, really. There is something so exciting about creating little “mile-markers” in your life, to give you an extra skip in your step when you can start to see the big picture. In fact, I set goals on a daily basis. For instance, I will workout until “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” goes to commercial break (and then I get sucked in until the next commercial break. And the next. And by the time the show’s over, I’ve burned 600 calories!). I will clean the house today (at least do the dishes). I will save this $20 bill for my student loan payments ( I really will this time!). I will find a job with benefits and paid vacation days by the end of this year (unless something better comes along). I will be nice (that’s a big one!).

It doesn’t matter how small or insignificant it seems in the overall scheme of life. Little goals most definitely add up!

So…this year I decided to create a “Happy List” as opposed to traditional New Years Resolutions. Instead of the usual “Lose 20 pounds by next Friday” or “Shun sugar and carbs and anything tasty forever,” I created a list that I will actually enjoy during the process. And here it is:

  • Do something physical every single day. It doesn’t have to be a 2-hour workout and it doesn’t have to involve the gym. It can be as simple as walking all day at the mall (and I plan on doing this A LOT).
  • Go on as many vacations/day-trips/overnight adventures as possible. Travel is one of my greatest passions. And the best part of all is, I love to travel anywhere! It can be as close as Santa Barbara or as far away as New York City. It doesn’t matter where, just GO.
  • Subscribe to a new magazine each month. For as long as I can remember, I have always been obsessed with magazines. Having them delivered to my mailbox each month is basically my idea of heaven.
  • Continue to be published. More on that later 🙂
  • Go to Disneyland at least 12 times this year. Maximize that insanely-overpriced but oh-so-worth-it annual pass.
  • Knit a cowl-neck scarf. On Christmas Eve I decided I wanted to learn how to knit. Thus, I stayed up late watching tutorials on YouTube and am proud to say, I am now officially OBSESSED.
  • Host a garage sale. My family has been planning a garage sale for months and it still has yet to happen. 2010=the year to take back the garage floor.
  • Go hiking. I love to hike. Love, love, love it. I am most definitely doing it as often as possible this year, with whomever I can round up. That means YOU, John.
  • Wake up early. For a non-morning person like myself, this means before 10 AM.
  • Scrapbook at least 2 layouts per week. I live for this hobby! It is my happy place! So why is it so hard to get going on new projects? This year, I will make it happen. And I can’t wait!
