It was a red and black weekend, apparently

12 Jul

This past weekend was quite eventful! First off, we had one of these:

I made a whopping…thirty-two dollars! Haha! Hey, extra cash at this time in my life is a welcome thing! (Correction: extra cash is a welcome thing at any point in time.) After the sale, everything that didn’t sell went straight to the Goodwill, where my old junk will now become someone’s new treasure. I love that!

That night, I went over to Heather’s for a final get-together with some of my closest friends (and we missed the ones that weren’t there!). Heather and Janelle are both exceptionally good cooks, so the food was ahhh-mazing, as usual!

It seems like half my group is branching out across the US! I’m going to Utah, Jaymee is in Hawaii, Liz is going to Atlanta, Val is headed for Seattle, Sarah is in San Diego, and everyone else may disperse at any given moment come the right job or grad school…iChat, anyone??? I’ve said it before and I will say it again: I LOVE MY FRIENDS!

Yesterday I finished a side project for six bridesmaids’ belts for a November wedding. It was a fun and creatively challenging project, given that I’ve never constructed belts out of handmade flowers before! I was lucky that the bride gave me the freedom to play with the fabric and create a composition entirely on my own, with a single photo to use as inspiration. Another project checked off my list…

Speaking of lists, mine is still about a mile long and I’ve got less than two days to wrap it up! I better get back to work!

P.S. While previewing this post, I noticed that the color scheme is entirely red and black! How strange is that? And how strange is it that my alma mater’s colors are red and black? Haha!

Challenge Complete!

27 Apr

When I saw Cherie’s challenge to create a layout inspired by this rug:

I instantly knew I wanted to make this:

The textures and colors in the rug reminded me of my interior design days when I used to drool over the countless wallpaper samples in the ID resource room at school. I would hoard the most beautiful wallpaper samples – not for my design storyboards, mind you – but for my scrapbooks! HA! It was one of many signs that I was much better suited for the graphic design side of the fine arts spectrum than the interior design side. But as a result of testing out the ID waters, I now have a ton of fun wallpaper samples mixed in with my patterned paper stash that were perfect for this challenge! I had so much fun putting it all together and using up my scraps! Thanks Cherie!

P.S. I relisted a bunch of old favorites in my Etsy shop yesterday. Brand new styles are coming in May!

Etsying like Crazy!

2 Dec

So I just spent the whole morning taking detail photos, editing photos, retaking photos when I decided I did not like said photos, uploading… Whew! I went to text John and I could barely hit the buttons on my phone, my fingers are so numb from all this finite Photoshop action! Hahah! All of this is because I am in the process of a HUGE Etsy update. And I mean HUGE. Like 20+ items of handmade love!  While there is still more to be added, I want to show you a few of my new favorites (which are all inspired by my nearest and dearest friends!):

How gorgeous is my model??? She was kind enough to put up with all of my strange photo requests AND brave the Santa Ana winds AND come over the day before Thanksgiving when she had so much cooking to do! Janelle – I love you, girl!

Hope you all are having a fantastic week and enjoying the holiday season! If you’re not too busy, check out The Cozy Farmhouse Shop and let me know what you think!

November 2009, I love you

LOVE receiving packages in the mail. Love love love it.

I placed an order through 2Peas with some birthday money last week and was so psyched to uncover the treasures within. Obviously I knew what was in that box since I placed the stinkin order, but still! It’s like my friend Heather’s “crunchy surprise” philosophy: stuff torilla chips into your burrito and when you bite down, you will receive a satisfying “crunchy surprise!” You know they’re there, but it is still a wonderful surprise, nonetheless. Hahaha! But I digress…I can’t wait to put these gorgeous supplies to use!

In the meantime, I have been feverishly working on a new fleet of hair accessories for my Etsy shop. Actually, my work hasn’t exactly been feverish. More like leisurely. With The Real Housewives of Orange County on in the background (OBSESSED, btw). And the occassional indulgence in fudge (the holiday baking is in full swing here at my house!). Just how I like it.

Alright, back to the feverish workload!

Local Collection

Laying out all my new accessories on the table, along with their new names, so I could put them on an inventory list – quite a process!

I still can’t believe it…

A month or so ago, I received an e-mail via Etsy asking if I would be interested in selling my hair accessories at a brand-new store at the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, CA. At first I felt so undeserving…my accessories? Are you sure you want mine? But then I realized, what the heck is wrong with me? This is awesome! (Had enough of my inner dialogue yet? Good, me neither. HA!)

Of course I wanted to partake in this! So I immediately said yes and I am pleased to say, you can now find my accessories at an amazing new store called Local Collection. The shop opens this Friday, November 13th and I can’t wait to see how this journey unfolds…

P.S. Being a part of this store prompted me to create a bunch of new accessories, which will soon be available on my Etsy as well!

P.P.S. Both my new and old accessories have new names, inspired after some very stylish girls that I am lucky to know! Including this gal and this gal
