Have I Told You…

11 Jun

…about my obsession with spray paint? I’ve used it before for painting furniture and frames and occasionally chipboard, but when I recently used it on a whim to paint some paper, I had no IDEA how awesome it really is! Now don’t get me wrong, I love my Glimmer Mist and Maya Mist just as much as the next scrapbook-aholic, but spray paint GETS. THE. JOB. DONE. And it definitely got the last two week’s challenges done quite efficiently.

Here’s my fabric challenge from 2 weeks ago:

It’s funny because I’m not even on a mini-book “kick” right now; these days, I am all about the single 12×12 layouts! But for some reason, my photos from my friends’ annual Christmas Party were calling my name. (As were the old pants that I ripped up and turned into the fabric flower on the cover…but that’s another post in and of itself!). Half the pages are from an acrylic deck of cards and the other half are chipboard artisan labels. I sprayed all of them with a metallic silver spray paint from Krylon and then a light dusting of Glimmer Mist’s “Marshmallow.” It turned out to be a super fast and fun mini – just how I like it!

And of course, Cherie’s challenge for this past week was to document what you love about summer. So I interpreted it as this:

I went to TOWN with the masking, as you can see! Haha! I haphazardly placed a whole chipboard alphabet (I’m pretty sure it’s a Colorbok one that I got from the Target Dollar Spot a few months back) diagonally down the page (with the help of a temporary adhesive) and then sprayed the heck outta this baby with some white craft spray paint from Joann’s. My favorite part about it is the bottom right corner where it coincidentally spells out “joy.” Love that!

And like Cherie, I am not a huge proponent for the summer season. Don’t get me wrong, my summers always turn out to be fun and exciting, but the heat I can easily do without, no problem! Although it does make workouts all the better when I can immediately jump in the pool afterward. I guess summer has it’s perks after all…

Things from Thursday

28 May

I’m pretty sure that Thursdays are my most favorite day of the week. They mean a number of fun things: Paperclipping Roundtable is usually posted in iTunes. People magazine arrives in the mail. Real Housewives of NYC. And of course, challenge day! Here is my latest take on Cherie’s sketch challenge:

In case you didn’t know, I am addicted to fabric. It’s quickly becoming my go-to supply – especially since my stash is growing by the minute! So for this layout, I used it as a background texture by first applying some adhesive to the paper and spreading the fabric evenly on top and then sewing around the perimeter of the lace and paper together. Such a fun, easy way to add texture to any layout!

Speaking of fabric addiction, I swung by Joann’s the other day (you know, I just happened to be in the right neck of the woods) and took advantage of their sale on lace – I LOVE lace! I also picked up some fabulous crepe paper from Party City for…get this…0.74 cents a roll!!! I could not believe what a sweet deal that was! I am in texture heaven right now…

So for my challenge this week:

Use fabric on a layout, however you would like! I promise, you will not be disappointed! (:

New Challenge is Up!

29 Apr

I’ve been scrapping here and there lately, which is making me so happy! I’m on a self-imposed buying freeze at the moment, so it’s been fun rediscovering all the amazing products I have hidden away in my stash - I think it’s boosting my creativity! Here are a few of my recent creations:

The background is chipboard, which was a fun change of pace for my regular 12×12 cardstock style! And the numbers were cut out using my Slice. Love that little thing!

I swear this page took no longer than an hour to complete which is INSANELY fast for me! Some older product, some newer product – it’s all good!

My challenge for this week is to create a layout inspired by this photo:

Interpret it as you will! Enjoy!:)

Challenge Complete!

27 Apr

When I saw Cherie’s challenge to create a layout inspired by this rug:

I instantly knew I wanted to make this:

The textures and colors in the rug reminded me of my interior design days when I used to drool over the countless wallpaper samples in the ID resource room at school. I would hoard the most beautiful wallpaper samples – not for my design storyboards, mind you - but for my scrapbooks! HA! It was one of many signs that I was much better suited for the graphic design side of the fine arts spectrum than the interior design side. But as a result of testing out the ID waters, I now have a ton of fun wallpaper samples mixed in with my patterned paper stash that were perfect for this challenge! I had so much fun putting it all together and using up my scraps! Thanks Cherie!

P.S. I relisted a bunch of old favorites in my Etsy shop yesterday. Brand new styles are coming in May!

Layout Land

22 Apr

I’ve been a busy girl cranking out the layouts these past couple of days, in between working and coming down from my Glee high – ha!  First up is a layout for the American Crafts blog . The challenge was to use at least 2 items from the new Dear Lizzy collection, which was no problem for me! I have been hoarding her products since the moment they burst on the scene!

Journaling says: “For the past few years, I have been obsessed with pink Nike running shoes! My newest kicks are the pinkest ones yet and the best at motivating me to workout!”

And of course, the fabric paper is SO much fun to play with (especially when combined with pinking shears and some flower folding action!) and it comes in the prettiest patterns. I also used two of the patterned papers,  in addition to the Whistel stamp set and the Clover Bloss Thickers. Honestly, I am in LOVE with this line.

Second up is my challenge for last week: to scrap a non-holiday layout using holiday- themed product.

A little mix of holiday Sassafras and Cosmo Cricket = tons of fun! Thanks for stopping by!

Thursday Round-Up

15 Apr

Hi everyone!

I just spent all morning creating in my PJ’s while listening to videos on my iPod and then I went outside to get the mail and found my new running shoes sitting by the door!

Of course I immediately had to put them on and take a few victory laps around the house! They are just the inspiration I need to get to the gym after being cooped up in my room all morning!

And the motivation behind my A.M. scrap session would be this challenge from Cherie! I had SO much fun creating the subtle bicycle motif as the pattern for the pink paper:

All it took was some clear embossing powder, VersaMark ink, and my favorite new Paper Source stamp! I love the “pop” it creates without being too overwhelming. And that leads me to this week’s challenge:

Create a non-holiday layout using holiday-themed supplies! I know I have a ton of holiday supplies (especially Christmas and Valentine’s) that I seem to skip over during the non-holiday seasons of the year. So if nothing else, it will get me to use up all those beautiful papers and embellishments before next Christmas gets here and all the new lines come out! Ha!

P.S. My heart skipped a beat when I read on Ali’s blog today that next week starts the “Week In Your Life” series! Every year I am so enthralled with her work and photos and this year I am determined to do it myself. I’m playing with the idea of printing my photos on a smaller scale and creating a 12×12 for each day. How fun would that be? Eeeeeee! :)

(Not So) Guilty Pleasure

11 Mar

I LOVED Cherie’s challenge to scrap your guilty pleasure, this week. Here is my take on it:

I am officially a magazine-aholic. Always have been. Probably always will be. If there’s a magazine to be read anywhere in this house, I will hunt it down and read it cover to cover (back cover to front cover is how I do it!)! It all started with my American Girl magazines when I was in kindergarten. I remember how highly I coveted those issues, as they only came out every other month! From there on out, I have loved so many different publications: Self, Glamour, Shape, Health, Domino, Martha Stewart Living, Blueprint, Creating Keepsakes, People, Sunset, Psychology Today, just about anything, really! Sit me down with a stack of magazines and a coffee, and I will be entertained for hours! My obsession with the written word is truly a guily pleasure I will never give up!

So that brings me to next week’s challenge: Scrap Your Love List !

I’ve made a few of these pages before and they are always so much fun to do! Compile a list of your favorite things (it can be short or long, it’s up to you!) and display them in scrapbook form.  I love doing these pages because the list is constantly changing – there is always something new to love! Enjoy!

Challenge No. 2!

4 Mar

I woke up extra early today so I could squeeze in everything on my mile long to-do list! First on the list: post my layout from Gen’s non-scrapbook-related-item challenge. And here it is:

For my “non-traditional” supplies, I used a vintage tape measure, a green ticket, a shipping tag, and handmade flowers made from fabric scraps. If you’re anything like me and come across lots of fabric in your stash, a great way to use up the remnants (especially if you’re cutting hundreds of circles out for hair accessories!) is to roll them into little fabric flowers.

These all came from scraps of fabric I had laying around and would have been thrown out otherwise. I can’t remember the first time I learned how to make these rolled fabric flowers, but recently I came across a great video tutorial from Rhonna Farrer here. (Plus, you get to see a little bit of her crafting space which looks amazing!)

Today I am off and running! I had some marathon hair-accessory-making marathons these past couple of nights so that I can drop off a huge box full of new accessories to Local Collection in Glendale. Phew! My finger tips are happy to be removed from the stitching needles and the glue gun, if only for a short while ;) Hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!

P.S. The Office Baby tonight!

iTunes Tells No Lies

26 Feb

So here is my take on the music challenge! It may be a day late, but if you know anything about my family and our punctuality skills (or severe lack thereof), it is right on time! Haha!

As you can tell, I may be a tad obsessed with Jason Mraz. Not with him, per se, but definitely with his music. I love his kooky vocal stylings (how “American Idol” does that phrase sound?! Hahah!) and his lyrics and the overall vibe he gives off. He’s like John Mayer’s hippie/surfer/Native Californian younger brother, which is just about the perfect combination of musical genes.

P.S. I used my new Slice die for the letters on this layout and I love that Rosewood font oh-so-much! All I have to say is, next time Michael’s has a sale on Slice products, I am stocking up!

P.P.S. I signed up for Kelly Purkey’s Beginnings Class and am so excited for it to launch! Can’t wait! I love everything that girl does!
